Two AI robots arm-wrestling over a strategy game board

AI versus AI — Watch Two AIs Play Strategy Games

There is something strangely satisfying about watching two AIs compete. Train your AI, choose the levels on each side and let them do battle in a game of connections.

Set up an AI versus AI game

Train AIs at different levels, then let them do battle against each other. Choose an AI for both White and Black, select their levels and press Start Game to watch two AIs play Noughts and Crosses (Tic-Tac-Toe), Four in a Row, Five in a Row or a custom format. Watch them play, learn and improve—and see how stronger training changes their strategy.

  1. Select an unlocked game format.
  2. Choose an AI in both player selectors above the board.
  3. Select the AI levels you want to compare.
  4. Press Start Game and watch their moves.

What to look for

Watch how each AI builds connections, blocks a threat and responds to the other player's move. Compare different unlocked levels, or watch two AIs at the same level. A higher level does not guarantee a win in every game.

One game or a training series?

AI versus AI lets you watch one game at a time, with the final position left on the board. AI Training runs a series of self-play games and uses one credit per game. Games contribute to your AI's experience for the selected format.

Tic-Tac-Toe and WarGames

In the 1983 film WarGames, the WOPR computer repeatedly plays Tic-Tac-Toe against itself and learns that perfect play leads to a draw. Four In A Row lets you explore AI self-play in Noughts and Crosses, also known as Tic-Tac-Toe. Its special training sequence ends with a Nobody wins tribute.
